Starting with a tree. The lions share of the wood I have used over the last 40+ years of woodworking started with taking down a tree. At the beginning, I milled the trees with a chainsaw. With more wood, I have hired sawyers with bandsaw mills. I started with all hand tools. I still enjoy the peaceful quiet of hand saws and planes, but my shop has grown over the years, with many power tools. Since retiring, I spend lots of enjoyable time in the shop.
